BC opens 4-2 at Whitefish tipoff tourney

WHITEFISH — The Butte Central volleyball team went 4-2 in pool play Friday at the Northwest vs. Southwest Tip-Off Volleyball tournament.

The Maroons swept two games from Frenchtown before splitting two-game matches with Eureka and Whitefish.

“I am pleased with how the girls played today. They played tough,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “My seniors are playing all the way around, and that is hard to do in tourney play. But they are a tough group and that showed today.

Seniors Corbyn Holm and Taylor Wahl each tallied 16 kills on the day to lead the Maroon attack. Classmate Mollie Peoples added 10. Senior Emily St. John dished up 46 assists.

Holm (12), St. John (10), Peoples (10) and Samantha Burton (10) reached double digits in digs.

“The juniors followed (the seniors) lead and are really coming around in their first debut playing varsity,” Hancock said. “It’s about coming together and playing as a team, we did that today. These were our first games of seeing competition, and we competed. Not much more you can ask for.”

The tournament continues at 9 a.m. Saturday.
