BC JV boys win one, lose one

Butte Central’s junior varsity boys’ basketball team went 1-1 last week. The Maroons fell 68-37 to Class AA Helena High on Thursday before rebounding with a 50-48 win over Stevensville on Saturday.

Following is a rundown of both games.

Helena High 68, Butte Central 37

The Maroons trailed by just five points at halftime, but the game got away from BC thanks to a cold second half.

Jimmy Martz sank five 3-pointers — all in the first half — and led the Maroons with 15 points. Dylan Goodell scored 12 points for BC, while Chad Peterson scored six points and Cal Hollow tossed in four.

Wyatt Kingston, Jun Lin, Conor McGee, Sean Burt, Seth Powers and Kyle Harrington also contributed for the Maroons.

Butte Central 50, Stevensville 48

Just before the Maroons edged the Yellowjackets in overtime in the varsity game, BC picked up a thrilling victory in the junior varsity battle.

Kingston scored off a nice pass from Peterson with 6 seconds left for the game-winning bucket.

Kingston ended with a team-leading 14 points. Peterson scored 13, Martz tossed in 11, Goodell netted eight and Hollow and Harrington each scored two. Frank Hendrickson, Lin, McGee, Burt and Powers also contributed in the victory.
