BC girls start fast, turn back Whitefish

MISSOULA — The Butte Central girls’ basketball team jumped out to a big lead and hung on for a 46-35 victory over Whitefish Friday at the University of Montana Auxiliary Gym.

The non-conference game was part of the Northwest vs. Southwest Class A Basketball Tip-off Tournament.

Kloie Thatcher scored 11 of her game-high 14 points in the first half to help the Maroons build a 36-18 halftime lead. Thatcher hit three 3-pointers, as did teammate Olivia Bolton.

Megan Michelotti, playing in her first game since the 2016 Class A State tournament, scored 10 points in the victory. Bolton finished with nine, all of which came in the first half.

Tricia Joyce hit a 3-poitner and scored five points, the same total as Madison Kump. Shea Davis added two points in the win, while Emma Kelley scored one.

Payton Kastella scored 12 points, and Claire Carloss came off the bench to score 11 for the Bulldogs.

The Maroons will conclude the tournament at 11:45 a.m. Saturday against Polson. That game will be played at Dahlberg Arena.
