BC girls make it a baker’s dozen

HAMILTON — The Butte Central girls’ basketball team returned to the scene of last year’s Class A state championship loss Saturday afternoon.

The Maroons responded by showing the rest of the state that they are poised to make a return to the final game of the season, rolling their record to 13-0 with a 44-35 Southwestern A win over Hamilton.

The victory, which lifted BC’s conference record to 6-0, completed the season sweep over the defending Class A champion Broncs.

BC led 16-11 at the half.

The Maroons broke open a 16-11 game with a 16-5 run in the third quarter as BC ran its Southwestern A record to 6-0.

Mollie Peoples and Kloie Thatcher combined to score 30 points to lead the Maroons in the win. Peoples tossed in 16, while Thatcher netted 14. Emily St. John scored five points. Sierra Pica and Kailee Murphy each tossed in four, and Olivia Bolton scored one.

Rachael Ringer came off the bench to score 13 points to lead Hamilton. Eleven of those points came in the fourth quarter as the Broncs made a run to make the game look closer than it really was.

Jordan Bauder added six points, while Reilly Rostad scored five as the Broncs fell to 6-7 and 2-4.

The Maroons will be back in action Thursday when they play host to Livingston in a non-conference game.
