BC girls fall to Livingston, weather

The location was at Butte’s Father Sheehan Park Saturday afternoon.

It sure seemed like Livingston had the home court advantage, however, as the Rangers knocked off Butte Central’s girls’ tennis team 7-0 in cold and windy conditions.

BC’s match with Anaconda was called off shortly after it started because hail and snow settled into the park. The Rangers also knocked off the Copperheads, 5-2.

“Today was all about who could play in windy conditions,” BC coach Bernie Carey said. “Livingston is a pretty windy place, and they handled it very well. They have a solid girls team.”

Despite the loss, Carey praised the play his singles players, who all won games in match losses.

Mederios Babb of Butte Central returns a shot against Anaconda’s Destiny Strutzel.

Kellsie Quinn fell to Cassie Manns 10-7 in a third-set tie breaker. Mederios Babb, Sarah Drew and Larysa Blavatsky also played solid matches in the losing effort.

“I am very pleased with our girls singles performances — Mederios,  Kellsie, Sarah and Larysa,” the coach said. “They played very hard today. And our doubles are starting to figure it out.”

Ali Guldseth played with Ryan Trudnowski, Kara Criscuolo teammed with Kaylee Simkins, and Megan McPherson played with Kathi Matthies in the match against Livingston.

BC’s Sarah Drew, who was playing with Ryan Trudnowski, races up to return a shot against Anaconda.

BC switched up its lineup a bit against Anaconda, but the weather never let it shake out.

“I’m just glad we could get some matches in before the weather hit,” Carey said.

Maroon Kara Criscuolo hits a serve moments before the match with Anaconda was called off.
