BC girls clobber Anaconda in Combo softball

Butte Central scored 11 runs over the second and third innings and beat Anaconda 14-5 Friday in a nonconference high school girls’ softball game in the annual LaVerne Combos Invitational tournament at Stodden Park.
The Class A Maroons jumped out 3-0 on Class B Anaconda in the first inning as Hattie Mehring drew a one-out walk and ran home on a double Brooke Badovinac for the first run. Jaeden Berger singled Badovinac home and then came home when Mia Keeley was safe on an error.
The BC girls built their lead to 8-0 in the second inning. Renee Creekmore crunched a double and Sophia Gelling worked a walk. Kathryn Lalicker singled in a run and an error on the play let another run score. Mehring then knocked in a run with a base hit and Badovinac plated two with a triple.
Anaconda scored a run in the second as Cara Fortner walked and got home two outs later when MiKayla McKelvy was safe on an error.
Butte Central capped its production with six runs in the third inning. Alex Morey and Creekmore drew back-to-back walks to start the inning and, after an out, a run scored on a passed ball, and Lalicker and Mehring were walked as a run scored. Badovinac hit a sacrifice fly, Berger doubled in a run and Arika Stajcar worked a walk. Keeley doubled home the sixth run.
The Copperheads tallied four of their runs in their half of the third, but not enough to stay in the game. It ended on tournament time limit but not before Anaconda got a three-run homer from Fortner and a run-scoring single from McKelvy.
Mehring pitched the win.
