Butte Central’s football game in Corvallis has been canceled.
The cancellation is related to Friday’s confirmed case of COVID-19 in a student at the high school, BC coach Don Peoples Jr. said.
The game was scheduled for Friday but moved back a day while the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department investigated the case. As the Maroons were getting ready for a pre-game walk through before heading to Corvallis Saturday, word came that contract tracing results made it impossible for the Maroons to play football.
“In our work with the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department and their contract tracing efforts, we learned that we have several more students identified as close contacts with the case,” said Peoples, who is also the president of Butte Central Schools. “Our administrative team thought it wasn’t a prudent thing to do to send kids on the road for a football game.”
The game will not be a forfeit for the Maroons because the cancellation is related to COVID-19.
Butte Central’s volleyball matches at Hamilton on Saturday were called off on Friday. No make up date for that has been set, but the match can be made up.
The football game cannot be made up.
Butte Central is scheduled to host Stevensville in a football game Friday. A decision on whether that game can be played will be made during the week, Peoples said.
