Butte Central names 2014 football captains

The Butte Central football team elected its 2014 captains during the July Champions Football Camp. The election was held during the camp because a May election resulted in several players receiving equal votes.

“We normally select three or four captains for our football team,” BC coach Don Peoples Jr. said. “In our May election we had five players all within one vote of each other, so we decided to vote again in July after the majority of our offseason program was finished. In our July the results were the same, so our coaching staff opted to go with five captains for the season.”

Peoples announced the five captains Friday. They are Marcus Ferriter, Kaemen Richards, Danny Peoples, Chad Peterson, and Ty Bolton. All were starters for the Maroons in 2013.

“The five players earned the most points in our offseason strength and speed program, so they are definitely our hardest workers,” Peoples said. “We are excited to have them lead our football team this season.”

Ferriter is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound offensive tackle and defensive end. He has been a three-year starter on offense and a two-year starter on defense. He was first team all-conference both ways in 2013 and a first team all-state offensive tackle.

Richards is a 6-2, 220-pound fullback and inside linebacker. He was a first team all-conference inside linebacker in 2013 and the leading tackler for the Maroons defense. An injured shoulder limited his offensive time in 2013. He is expected to be a two way performer this season.

Peoples is a 6-foot, 180-pound quarterback, free safety, kicker and punter. In 2013 he was named first team all-conference quarterback after completing 151 passes for 2,220 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named first-team all-conference kicker for the second straight season.

Peterson is a 6-foot, 185-pound wide receiver and strong safety. He was named second-team all-conference both ways after catching 25 passes and three touchdowns.

Bolton is a 5-11, 220-pound guard and defensive tackle. He started 10 games in 2013 on the offense line and played on the defensive line.

The captains will lead the Maroons into the 2014 season, which will begin on Aug. 15 with the start of training camp. The Maroons will open on the road on Aug. 29 at Belgrade.

“We are excited about these captains and our entire football team,” Peoples said. “Our kids worked very hard during the offseason and we are hungry to be better in 2014.”
