LIVINGSTON — It might have seemed like an off day for the Butte Central boys’ tennis team Tuesday.
That’s because the Maroons won by just one match, beating Livingston 4-3. The Maroons have been used to rolling teams with scores like 7-0 and 6-1. The team beat Butte High 7-1 on Monday.
Tuesday, they needed a sweep of the doubles to pull out a victory, and they got it.
Jim and Frank Joyce won in straight sets, as did Kaden Peeples and Kolten LaMiaux, and Patrick Kenney and Tyler Trudnowski.
Jesse Reinke won a 10-8 tiebreaker to pick up BC’s lone singles win.
The girls fell 3-0 to a tough Livingston club.
“Our boys and girls faced some very good competition,” BC coach Bernie Carey said. “Livingston has a solid program that got the best of our girls and almost got the best of our boys.”
The Maroons close out the regular season Saturday at the Fergus Invitational in Lewistown. The Southwestern A Divisional tournament is the following week in Corvallis.
“With the divisional tournament coming up soon, it’s going to be very important for our us to not get over confident and complacent,” Carey said. “We really need to continue to stay focused and step it up in these last practices and upcoming Lewistown Invite. If all goes well, we are hoping to peak when the time is right.”
