Bazzanella wins age group in trail run

HELENA — Butte’s Michele Bazzanella won the women’s 40-49 age group in the 30-kilometer race in Saturday’s 14th Annual Don’t Fence Me In Trail Run.

Bazzanella finished the grueling run in 3 hours, 5 minutes, 37.74 seconds. She placed 10th overall among women. Megan Deakins, a 23 year old from Mountain View, California, was the overall women’s winner, finishing in 2:30:48.

Don Foley of Butte placed fifth in the men’s 40-49 division and 30th overall with a time of 3:05:37.27. Fellow Butte runner Joe Stimatz placed 15th in that age group in 3:33:11.74.

Curtis Moen of Butte placed 12th in the men’s 20-29 division in 3:11:45.13.  Jim Walmsley, a 24-year-old runner from Black Eagle won the race in 2:11:34.41.

In the 12-kilometer race, Butte runner Day Blythe placed 22nd in the men’s 30-39 age group with a time of 1:10:33.66.

Butte’s Eli Blythe placed 11th in the 14-and-under boys’ division in the 5K. He finished the race in 30:34.09. Also, Sherry Schwend of Butte finished third in the women’s 50-59 age group with a time of 43:37.13 in the 5K.
