Bazzanella wins age group at Don’t Fence Me In Trail Run

HELENA — Butte runner Michele Bazzanella won the women’s 40-49 age group in the 30-kilometer race at the 15th Don’t Fence Me In Trail Run.

The 41-year-old Bazzanella, who ran the Boston Marathon last month, finished the race in 3 hours, 16 minutes, 46.49 seconds. She also placed 16th overall among women. Maria Dalzot, 27, from Bellingham, Washington, won the race in 2:38:19.95.

Maria Williams, 25, of Butte, placed 25th overall in 3:28:07.85.

Don Foley, 43, of Butte, placed second in the men’s 40-49 age group. He finished in 2:56:23.45 to also place 26th overall among men runners.

Matthew Kempton, 30, of Denver won the men’s title in 2:13:58.89.

In the 12K race, Butte’s Joe Stimatz, 44, place eighth in his age group in 1:08:48.61.

A handful of Butte runners also competed in the 5K race.
