Battlin’ Bears topple Dawgs, claim share of first place

BILLINGS — Jacob Bakken passed for 362 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead No 13 Rocky Mountain College to a 43-14 win over No. 16 Montana Western on the Herb Klindt Field. (Stats)

The win snapped Western’s three-game winning streak and pulled Rocky into a first-place tie with the Bulldogs for first place in the Frontier Conference at 6-2.

Western beat Rocky 24-21 Sept. 15 in Billings. Rocky’s only other loss was a forfeit for using an ineligible player in a win over Carroll College.

Bakken hit Lucas Overton, Darneail Jenkins and Max Grey for touchdowns. He also ran for a score. Overton and Jenkins went over 100 yards receiving as the Bears outgained the Bulldogs 492-187.

Walker McKitrick caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Jon Jund to put the Bulldogs up 7-0. Rocky scored the next 43 points before Western scored again, a 2-yard pass from Sean Miller to Nate Simkins.

Western plays at home next week at the College of Idaho. Rocky travels to Eastern Oregon.
