Battlin’ Bears grab win on late field goal

DICKINSON, N.D. — Freshman Wyatt Brusven booted a 24-yard field goal with 38 seconds left Thursday night, and No. 23 Rocky Mountain College opened the football season with a 23-21 non-conference win over No. 9 Dickinson State. (Stats)

The game-winning field goal came after Dickinson State battled back from a 17-0 deficit to take a 21-20 lead on 1-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Gibson to Jaret Lee with just under 6 minutes left.

Freshman Nathan Dick passed for 142 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He found Josh Kraft and John Bass for scores. Sam Sparks ran for 96 yards on 18 carries.

Brusven also connected on field goals of 33 and 43 yards.

Gibson tossed a pair of touchdowns in the loss. Amad Andrews ran for 116 yards on 26 attempts.

The game was the first involving a Frontier Conference team this season. Next up for Rocky is a Sept. 7 home game against MSU-Northern.
