THE DALLES, Ore. — Butte native Bryon Baker pitched the distance Sunday afternoon as the MSU-Billings baseball team beat Saint Martin’s 5-1 in the second game of a doubleheader at Bob Williams Field.
The win gave the Yellowjackets a 3-1 win in the four-game weekend set.
Baker, a Butte High graduate, struck out seven in the seven-inning game. He surrendered three hits and gave up one earned run. He walked two while improving to 2-0 on the season.
Left fielder Casey Merritt went 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Yellowjacket offense. Jalen Garcia and Max Hartgraves also drove in a run.
The start was the first of the season for Baker, who has a 1.29 ERA through five appearances. The righty has struck out 12 and walked just two in 14 innings of work.
Saint Martin’s won the opener 8-4. MSUBwon 3-2 and 6-3 on Saturday. Weather pushed the games from Lacey, Washington, to The Dalles.
The Yellowjackets (5-12 overall, 3-4 GNAC) will play in Billings for the first time this season when they welcome Concordia University for a four-game series next weekend.
