This week’s Athlete of the Week is Butte High track star Sam Henderson. Sam can do it all, literally. Sam is very versatile, so much so he has competed in the high jump, long jump, triple jump, 100 meter 110 hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.

The Bulldog junior, who sprang a career-best 46-5 last week in Helena, had cruised into championship flight. All five of his qualified marks in the event were better than what any of his competitors landed.

Sam is the top triple jumper in the state with a jump of  46.5.5 and with a time of 14.91 it lands him in the top 6 in the state in the 110 hurdles. His mark of 6 feet 2 inches also lands him as the number 6 higher jumper in the state AA.

This is also Sam’s first year as a Bulldog for track, the junior spent his freshman and sophomore year with the Maroons, where he placed 5th in the Class A for triple jump.

Sam aka “Mr. Do it all” is very dedicated to his craft and his leap this year, has proven that hard work indeed pays off.

Sam traveled to Boston in March to compete in the New Balance Nationals, and in July Sam is headed the ever famous College Station in Texas to compete in the National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships.

Congratulations to Sam, keep working hard and leaving it all out there, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
