Athlete of the week: Owen McPartland/ Hudson Luedtke

This was a very good week for sports and had many worthy nominations for Athlete of the Week, in fact so much so that we have our first shared AOW award between two really great athletes.

There has been some really exciting basketball games as of late in the Mining City. Coach Brodie Kelly and his Maroons secured a State tournament birth for the 18th time in 20 years.

This week at divisionals the Maroons marched right to the championship game for a showdown with the Hamilton Broncs for the 3rd time of the year, BC fell short but was led by junior floor general Owen “Big Shot” McPartland. Owen had a stellar tournament where in 3 games he racked up 68 points for Butte Central helping them secure second place in the Western A for the State tournament.

On the other side in the AA the Bulldogs are a team nobody wants to play come tournament time as they have been absolutely electric their past 8 games winning 7 of them, their last loss came to Missoula Hellgate the defending AA champions.

After trailing by as many as 16 points the Bulldogs came back to beat Helena High on an incredible buzzer beating shot from Bulldog sophomore Hudson Luedtke. The Dogs finished the season on a 6 game win streak and look to take that momentum to the Divisional Tournament this week held in Butte at the Civic Center.

Congratulations to both of these players, their teammates, and coaches you sure make our job fun! Best of luck to the Bulldogs boys and girls this week for divisonals and to the Maroons at state in two weeks. Go get em.
