Athlete of the Week: Kylie Jaksha Copper City Kings

This week’s AOW is Kylie Jaksha goalie for the Copper City Kings, Butte High School. She is a sophomore at Butte High School and is the only goalie for the Copper City Kings High School team.

They compete at the JV level in the BSHSL division of the Montana Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA). There are 6 teams in the west and 6 teams in the east. 4 teams from each advance to the state tournament. The Copper City Kings (West Division) advanced to the state tournament that was held in Billings Feb. 29th – March 3rd, 2024. They went in ranked #2 in the west division with a 14-4-0 record. Although they fell short in the tournament, they had a winning season.

Kylie earned 1st Team All State. She is the first female goalie to ever earn this prestigious award at the JV level. She was the only female on the All State team. JV allows females to participate, but it is mostly males. She earned 3 shutouts this season (the most out of any goalie in the JV league).

Along with being devoted to hockey, she was manager of the Butte High Swim team (which coincides with the hockey season). She maintains a 4.0 GPA as well.

Great job to Kylie, keep working hard on the ice and in the classroom.
