CHICAGO — New Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta and two relievers held the St. Louis Cardinals to just two hits in a 7-0 win Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
Both Cubs hits came off the bat of Carlos Beltran. Arrieta pitched seven innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Butte native Rob Johnson got the start at catcher for the Cubs and went 0 for 3. Johnson grounded out to shortstop in the second inning and grounded out to the pitcher in the fifth. Johnson lined out to third in the seventh.
The former Butte Central Maroon and Butte Miner is now batting .208. His is 5 for 24 with a double, triple and two RBIs since being called up from Triple A Memphis on July 9.
