Argos top Diggers in five

GREAT FALLS — The University of Providence held off Montana Tech in a five-set volleyball match Friday night at the McLaughlin Center.

The No. 9 Argos bounced back from a slow start to win 11-25, 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10. (Stats)

Jenna Thorne’s 15 kills to lead Providence, which improved to 19-2 overall and 6-0 in Frontier Conference play. Madysen Hoerner tallied 12 kills, and Cydney Finberg-Roberts set 35 assists. Sacha Legros led the backcourt with 33 digs.

Olivia Muir registered 14 kills as the No. 17 Orediggers, who fell to 17-8 and 3-3.

Karina Mickelson added 13 kills, while Maureen Jessop, Taylor Henley and Sydney Parks each spiked six for the Diggers, who outkilled Providence 50-43. McKenna Kaelber set 45 assists, and Sarah Hopcroft collected 29 digs.

Mickelson added 21 digs, and Jessop dug 16.

The Orediggers will play two home matches next week. They take on Carroll College on Wednesday before battling Rocky Mountain College on Saturday.
