Argos sweep Dawgs

GREAT FALLS — The University of Providence swept a Frontier Conference basketball doubleheader with Montana Western Wednesday night at the McLaughlin Center.

The Providence women knocked off the Bulldogs 71-62 before the Argo men came from behind to complete the sweep with an 81-76 win.

With the win, the Providence men clinched the  Frontier Conference regular-season title

Five Providence men scored in double figures for the Argos, who outscored the Bulldogs 48-36 to overcome a 40-33 halftime deficit.

Zaccheus Darko-Kelly and Jaxen Hashley each scored 14 points, while Marcus Stephens and Davien Harris-Williams both netted 13. Cap Usan chipped in with 10. Hashley grabbed eight rebounds, and Darko-Kelly dropped eight assists.

Jalen Hodges scored 21 points to lead the Bulldogs in the loss. Max Clark added 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and Jamal Stephenson scored 13 points. Western also got eight points from Tanner Haverfield.

Emilee Maldonado’s 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists led the way as the Argo women won the opener. Parker Esary scored 18 points to go along with eight rebounds, and Maddy Dixon contributed with 11 points and eight boards.

Brynley Fitzgerald scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs. Lilly Gopher scored nine, and Paige Holmes and Sydney Sheridan each scored eight.

The Western men and women will close the season at home Saturday and Sunday against Carroll College. The Providence teams will play Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
