Anaconda’s Stetzner, Morley win opener

ANACONDA — Anaconda golfers Caleb Stetzner and Emily Morley opened the prep golf season in style Monday.

Stetzner matched par with a 72 to win the Old Works Invitational, while Morley shot an 87 to win the girls’ title.

Hamilton won the boys’ team title with a 338. Anaconda was next at 358, followed by Livingston at 366, Dillon at 369, the Butte High JV at 372 and Butte Central at 411.

On the girls’ side, Frenchtown was the only school to field enough golfer for a score. The Broncs shot 421.

Stetzner’s 72 was good for a six-shot victory over second-place Josh Heath of Hamilton. Carson McDaniels of Polson placed third at 80, followed by Chris Delaney of Frenchtown at 82.

Butte Central freshman Tyge Yelenich opened his high school career with a strong showing, shooting an 87 to tie for ninth place with Dillon’s Parker Love. Yelenich was the lone Maroon to break 100 on the day.

Eric Fogerty shot an 88 to lead the Butte High JV squad. Will Hoagland (93), Tucker Thatcher (94) and Zach Hanni (97) each broke the century mark.

Morley also won by six strokes. Sydni Rose of Hamilton placed second at 93. She was followed by Heather Frank of Polson and Brittany Slaughter at 98.

Butte Central junior Regan Weldon didn’t play because she didn’t have enough practices under her belt. She will compete Friday when the Maroons head to Livingston on Friday.
