Americans deny Cobras

The Great Falls Americans knocked off the Butte Cobras 7-2 in a NA3HL Frontier Division game Thursday night at the Butte Community Ice Center. (Stats)

The loss spoiled Butte’s first home game in nearly three weeks, knocking the Cobras to 0-13 on the season.

Jake Hayes scored two goals to lead the Americans (9-2), who took the lead for good on a Ivan Royo goal 1 minute, 5 seconds into the game.

Bryson Fetcher, Levi Mese, Harley Nyhuis and Hendrik Robel also scored goals. Trever Mellen turned away 45 shots to get the win between the pipes. Great Falls outshot Butte 95-47.

Nick Bradshaw and Max Triepke scored goals for the Cobras. Ty Stovin assisted on both goals. Hunter Varney and Noah Williamson also registered assists in the loss.

The Cobras will head to Helena to take on the Bighorns in a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday. The Cobras’ next home game is Friday, Nov. 1 against Bozeman.
