Made for Butte sports fans by Butte sports fans, ButteSports.com is a constantly-updating, no-cost website that features the Montana Tech Orediggers, Butte High Bulldogs and Butte Central Maroons, as well as any other individual and team sports that Butte sports fans care about. That includes extensive coverage of the Frontier and Big Sky Conferences.
Bill Foley is the editor of ButteSports.com. Bruce Sayler, Pat Ryan, Paul Panisko and Ron Davis are contributors.
Foley has covered Butte and Montana sports at the Butte newspaper full-time since 1998. He won many awards in sports coverage, feature writing and column writing before leaving the paper in May. He got his start in 1996 at the student paper at the University of Montana, where he worked as a sports reporter and sports editor. A UM graduate, Foley also worked briefly at the Moscow-Pullman Daily News in Moscow, Idaho. His column, “Tap ‘er Light,” will come out each Tuesday.
Sayler, also a UM grad, worked in the newspaper business for 36 years, the last 33 of which came at The Montana Standard. He served as sports editor of that paper from 1997 until March of 2012. Sayler won many awards and is highly regarded as one of the state’s best sports writers. Sayler is also known as a pioneer in coverage of girls’ and women’s sports. His work will include game coverage, feature stories and columns.
Ryan joins ButteSports.com after a newspaper career of nearly 20 years. Affectionately known as “PR,” Ryan got his start in 1993 as a part-time sports assistant at The Billings Gazette. He also worked at two newspapers in Idaho before becoming sports editor at The Helena Independent Record. Ryan, an All-State center and member of four state champion wrestling teams at Butte High School, moved back to Butte in 1999.
Panisko is the radio voice of the Butte High Bulldogs and Montana Tech Orediggers. The two-time Montana Sports Broadcaster of the year has 13 years of on-air experience. He also was named Montana Sports Enterprise awards from the Montana Broadcaster Association.
Davis has broadcast Butte sporting events for 33 years. In his time he has covered Butte High, Butte Central and Montana Tech. Davis covered state and regional games for the former Omega TV, and he has broadcast games for ESPN and FOX. Davis also led the efforts as KBOW won the prestigious Crystal Award in early 2012.
