Abbott third in Big Sky high jump

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Butte High graduate Gwenn Abbott placed third in the high jump Saturday at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships.

The University of Montana athlete cleared 5 feet, 7 inches to bring home the bronze medal. Northern Arizona’s Lauren Laszczak cleared 5-8 to win the title.

The Grizzlies placed fourth in the tournament. Sacramento State’s women won the meet. Montana State placed sixth. Abbott scored six points for the Griz. Whitehall’s Kellee Glaus scored eight points by placing second in the triple jump.

Northern Arizona won the men’s title. MSU placed fifth, and Montana took sixth.

Butte Central grad Sean “Diesel” Ferriter scored a point for the Bobcats with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw on Friday. He placed 19th in the discus on Saturday.
