Former Butte High athletes Gwenn Abbott and Keli Dennehy scored points for the University of Montana women’s team during the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last week in Bozeman.
Abbott, who is a senior in indoor track and a junior in outdoor, placed second in the high jump.
Abbott cleared 5 feet 7 inches to tie Montana State’s Amber Amsbaugh. In all, five athletes cleared 5-7, but Abbott and Amsbaugh tied for first on misses. Amsbaugh won in a jump off.
Abbott’s second place gave the Grizzlies eight team points. Montana placed eighth with 47. Sacramento State won with 107.
Dennehy, a sophomore, ran the 1,600-meter leg of the UM team that placed fifth in the medley relay. Carly Wilczynski ran the 1,200, Brittany Schroede ran the 400 and Autumn Taniguchi ran the 800.
Dennehy also placed 11th in the 3,000 meters.
Butte’s Sean Ferriter and Sarah McGree had big performances for Montana State.
