Thatcher, Dembek lead Tech women to Hi-Line upset

HAVRE — Montana Tech pulled off a shocker Saturday night.

Behind a huge game by juniors Martha Dembek and Hattie Thatcher, the Orediggers knocked off No. 16 MSU-Northern 80-67 in a Frontier Conference game. Stats

Dembek scored 31 points while Thatcher, a Butte High graduate, tossed in 27 as the Orediggers (5-13, 9-20) won for the third time in four games.

The loss was huge for the Skylights (11-7, 22-7), who fell to the No. 4 seed in the playoffs.

The Orediggers took command with a 28-14 first quarter. Tech led 43-31 at halftime and 53-41 after three quarters.

Rachel Farris added eight points for Tech. Kourtney Coverdel added four, Kaylynn Coverdell scored four and Callee Remsen tossed in two.

Sierra Richards scored 17 to pace the Skylights. Butte High grad Natalee Faupel and Jacy Thompson each scored 14.
