Dexter Williams Jr. of Montana Western and Katie Estey of Carroll College were named the Frontier Conference Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced today.
Williams, a 6-foot-4 senior forward from Jacksonville, Florida, took home the men’s honor after helping No. 25 Western split a weekend home series. The Bulldogs beat Montana Tech 80-47 and lost to third-ranked Lewis-Clark State 92-79.
Williams averaged 25 points, 7.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. He was 17 of 30 in field goals (57 percent) including 4 of 8 (50 percent) from 3-point-range. From the free throw line, he was 12 of 18.
Paul Engstrom of Montana Tech, Doug McDaniel of Lewis-Clark State, Rob Nyby of Rocky Mountain College and David Straughter of Montana State-Northern were also nominated for the award.
Estey, a 5-6 senior guard from Spokane, Washington, helped the 10th-ranked Saints beat No. 25 University of Great Falls 72-67 and 15th-ranked MSU-Northern 55-47.
Estey averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, five assists and 2.5 steals. She was 10 of 26 from the field, 7 of 16 in 3-point field goals and 10 of 11 from the free throw line.
Hattie Thatcher of Montana Tech, Natalee Faupel of Montana State-Northern, McCall Hasquet of Montana Western, Stephanie McDonagh of the University of Great Falls and Caelyn Orlandi of Lewis-Clark State were also nominated.
