Western men, women stay hot in sweep of Argos

DILLON — The Montana Western basketball teams continued their winning ways Saturday with a Frontier Conference sweep of the University of Providence at the Straugh Gym.

The Western women ran to a 68-55 victory (Stats) in the opener, and the Bulldog men completed the sweep with a 77-67 win (Stats).

The win was the ninth straight for the No. 24 Western women. The No. 8 Western men won for the ninth time in 11 games.

Cierra Lamey and Brianna King combined for 45 points to lead Western’s women, who led 53-31 after three quarters. Lamey scored 23, while King tossed in 22.

Britt Cooper also reached double figures with 11 points. She grabbed six rebounds.

Stephanie McDonagh and Parker Esary each scored 17 to lead the Argos.

The Bulldogs ran their record to 10-4 in conference and 20-6 overall.

Dom Robinson, who joined the 1,000-point club in Thursday’s win over MSU-Northern, tossed in 20 points and handed out seven assists to lead the Western men.

The Bulldogs overcame a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Argos 45-25 in the second half.

Zaccheus Darko-Kelly and Brandon Jones each scored 14 points in the win that lifted the Bulldogs to 10-4 and 20-5. Darko-Kelly grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists, and Jones added seven boards.

Kooper Kidgell scored 11 points, and Marcus Payne tossed in nine in the victory.

The Bulldogs are back at home Wednesday when they play host to Montana Tech.
