TEMPE, Ariz. — Montana Tech golfer Ryan Keenan moved up the leaderboard of the Frontier Conference Championships Tuesday.
The freshman from Kalispell fired a 2-over-par 74 at Arizona State University’s Karsten Course to move into a tie for fourth place heading into Wednesday’s final round.
That followed a 78 on the opening round for Keenan, who sits at 152.
Tech sophomore Sean Benson slipped eight shots to 81 after being one shot out of the lead following the first round. He is tied for eighth place at 154.
Chris Lien of Lewis-Clark State matched his first-round 73 and leads the tournament at 146, which is 2 over par.
The Warriors lead the team race at 601 following Tuesday’s 296. Rocky Mountain College is second at 621, and Tech is third at 624. The Orediggers and Battlin’ Bears each shot a 317 on Tuesday.
Carroll is fourth at 628, followed by the University of Great Falls at 630.
Tech’s David Starcevich shot an 80 and sits in 11th place at 156. Jimmy Amundson is tied for 19th at 163 after an 83 Tuesday, while Trey Hoagland is tied for 23 at 166 after an 82.
On the women’s side, the Orediggers fell from third place to a tie for fourth place at 721 after a 363. LC State leads at 662, followed by Rocky at 686 and Carroll at 716. The University of Great Falls is tied with the Orediggers.
First-day leader Gina Kowolchuk of Great Falls shot her second 75 of the tournament and tops the leaderboard at 150. Blake Greenup of LC State and Katie Goins of Carroll are tied for second at 162.
Tech’s Megan Steach shot a second straight 88 and leads the Orediggers at 176. She is tied for 11th place. Taryn Campbell and Lynzee Dexter are tied for 12th at 179, while Hailey Ogolin is tied for 18th at 187.
