Stadium opening moved back one week

The opening of Miners Field at 3 Legend Stadium will have to wait a week.

Friday’s night’s game against the Bitterroot Bucs and Saturday’s doubleheader against Missoula have been postponed because of the heavy snowfall this week.

As of Thursday afternoon, snow is still covering the new field.

The Miners will now open the stadium on Friday, May 26 against Dillon. The first pitch of that game nine-inning will be at 6:30, and the schedule for the ceremony and pregame dinner will be the same.

At 4:30 p.m., a Butte-Silver Bow ribbon cutting will be held. A pasty dinner and dedication ceremony for Whelan, Hanley and Cavanaugh will take place at 5. Cost is $25 per person, and it is limited to 100 people.

At 6:20, the American Legion color guard will present the colors for the national anthem. The ceremonial first pitch by a member of the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation will be held at 6:25. The Foundation donated $1 million for the construction of the stadium.

Tickets for the dinner can be purchased online (click here). Spots can also be reserved by calling 498-3251 or 560-4405 or by emailing buttebaseball@gmail.com.

Little League players will get into the game for free if they wear their team uniforms to the game.

The Butte Muckers have a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday. If that game can be played, it will be held at Field No. 4 at Copper Mountain Park.
