HAVRE — Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball coach Chris Mouat has announced the signing of Jessica Curl, a 6-foot-3 post player from Butte College (California). Butte College is a member of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).
Curl was a two-sport standout at Butte, competing in both volleyball and basketball.
This past season, Curl averaged 16.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She also shot 53.7 percent from the field, and 68 percent from the free throw line. She failed to reach double-digit scoring in only one game, had a season-high 16 rebounds against Hartnell College, and recorded a triple-double. She finished second in rebounding, third in field goal percentage, and fifth in scoring in the Golden Valley Conference.
A native of Red Bluff, California, Curl is a 2014 graduate of Mercy High School. At Mercy, she set the single-season records for points (668), blocked shots (109), and rebounds (598). She is also the all-time career record-holder in points, blocked shots, and rebounds. She was an All-Conference selection in basketball, volleyball, and softball as a junior and senior. As a senior, she was named the Red Bluff Daily News Female Athlete of the Season.
“Jessica is a huge addition for us,” Mouat said. “She has good length and very good hands. She is skilled on the block and has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter. She had a very good season at Butte College last year and we are excited to have her on board. I think she will be a great fit in our system as well as on campus and in the community.”
Curl plans on majoring in criminal justice at MSU-Northern. She is the daughter of Kevin and Lynn Curl.
