When it came to dishing out assists on the MSU-Northern women’s basketball, nobody did it better than Charna (Ophus) Seibert.
“She was a key member of the 1993 NAIA National Championship team, and she is Northern ‘s all-time assist leader (a record that I don’t think will ever be broken),” Northern coach Chris Mouat said in a Facebook post Thursday. “In 2015, she was inducted into the MSU-Northern Hall of Fame.”
Now, Seibert is on the other end of an assist as she battles for her life. Recently, the Skylight great was diagnosed with stage-four cancer.
To raise money for Seibert’s fight, the Skylights are selling small pieces of wood from the original Armory Gymnasium. On the momentous piece of floor on which Seibert and the Skylights played on their way to that national title, is a message to Seibert.
“We’re behind you #22,” the memento reads. They are for sale for $20, and all proceeds will go directly to Seibert and her family to help offset costs for their battle ahead.
To order yours, contact Mouat at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“One of our all-time great Skylights is in a tough battle right now, and we want to do something to help,” Mouat said.
An account has also been set up at Independence Bank in Havre to accept donations to Seibert’s fight. Send checks to Charna Seibert Medical Benefit, P.O. Box 7751, Havre, MT, 59501.
