Saturday’s Hot Ticket: Maroons, Orediggers

Prep girls’ basketball
Corvallis at Butte Central, 4 p.m.

The Maroons (6-3, 13-4) will celebrate Senior Parent Night when they host the Blue Devils (1-8, 5-12) in a Southwestern A game at the Maroon Activities Center.

Corvallis fell 58-53 in an non-conference home game against Florence Friday night. BC topped the Blue Devils 45-33 Jan. 13 in Corvallis.

Central is coming off Thursday’s 54-45 win at Anaconda. Kloie Thatcher scored 17 points in that win. Megan Michelotti tossed in 14. The Maroons need a win and a Dillon loss at Hamilton to lock up the No. 2 seed at next week’s district tournament.

The Maroons will honor their four seniors: Thatcher, Michelotti, Olivia Bolton and Kailee Murphy.

Prep boys’ basketball
Butte Central at Corvallis, 4 p.m.

The Maroons (6-3, 12-5) hit the road looking to secure the No. 2 seed at the district tournament when they take on the Blue Devils (1-8, 5-12).

BC won 50-27 when these teams met Jan. 13 in Butte. Corvallis is coming off Thursday’s 62-45 non-conference loss at Florence.

Central is also looking to rebound after Thursday’s 55-41 loss at Anaconda. Sophomore Luke Heaphy scored 16 points to lead the Maroons in that game. Classmate Matt Simkins netted 13.

Women’s college basketball
Montana Tech at Rocky Mountain, 5:30 p.m.

The Orediggers (3-10, 13-12) look to stop a five-game losing streak, and it will be no easy task.

The No. 15-ranked Battlin’ Bears (9-4, 19-4) will be looking to bounce back from Friday’s 57-54 overtime loss to Carroll College. Hailee Farstveet scored 12 points to lead the Bears in the loss. Mikayla Jones and Brooke Jones each scored 11.

Rocky took the first two games of the series. The Bears won 60-52 Jan. 13 in Billings and 68-52 Jan. 26 in Butte.

The Orediggers fell 66-50 to Carroll Wednesday night in Helena. Kaylynn Coverdell scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Orediggers in the loss. Kourtney Coverdell tossed in 10 points.

Men’s college basketball
Montana Tech at Rocky Mountain, 7:30 p.m.

In the nightcap, the Orediggers (3-10, 11-13) will try to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Bears (6-7, 15-10).

Rocky bet Tech 65-55 Jan. 13 in Billings before escaping with a victory in a 73-70 thriller Jan. 25 in Butte.

Rocky fell 91-84 at home against Carroll Friday night. Craig Wilmore scored 19 points to lead four Bears in double figures in that loss. Satchel McDonald scored 16 points, while Chad Kananen scored 15 and Jared Samuelson tossed in 13.

Tech is coming off Wednesday’s 65-60 near miss at Carroll. Jake Miles and Carson Dummer each scored 12 points to lead the Orediggers in that game. Dylan Pannabecker scored 11, and John Chapman netted 10.
