KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Montana Tech football team will start the season as the No. 6 team in the nation.
The Orediggers moved up one spot to No. 6 in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, which was released today.
The Orediggers (10-2) repeated as Frontier Conference Champions last year and were voted the favorite in the Frontier Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Last season’s national champion Saint Francis (Ind.) held on to the No. 1 slot and claimed all of the first-place votes.
Frontier Conference foe Eastern Oregon fell three spots from the spring poll to No. 7. Montaha Western stayed at No. 19, while Southern Oregon moved into the poll at No. 25. Carroll College made an appearance in the receiving-votes category with 19 votes.
The Orediggers and Saints open the 2017 season Thursday, Aug. 31 on the Bob Green Field. The Thursday night game is the first home opener under the lights for the Orediggers since 2014 and first Thursday night contest since 2010. The Copper Game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
