KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Montana Tech has the No. 5-ranked NAIA football team in the nation.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the first edition of the Coaches’ Top 25 poll today, and the 2-0 Orediggers moved up one spot from their No. 6 distinction received in the preseason poll.
The move comes after Tech beat Carroll College 45-28 at home before setting a team scoring record with a 70-27 win Saturday at MSU-Northern. The Orediggers also set a team record with 795 yards of offense in one game in the win in Havre.
The two-time defending Frontier Conference champion Orediggers have now been ranked in the last 28 polls.
Tech is one of three Frontier Conference teams ranked in the top 25.
Eastern Oregon (1-1) dropped four spots to No. 11, while Southern Oregon jumped up 11 slots to No. 14. Montana Western fell out of the poll, but received votes.
Last year’s national champions Saint Francis (Indiana) received all 15 first place votes and took the top spot.
