TEMPE, Ariz. — The Montana Tech men’s golf team had a big day Wednesday.
The Orediggers fired a team score of 300 to jump into second place in team standings at the Frontier Conference Championships at the Arizona State University’s Karsten Course.
Oredigger sophomore Sean Benson rebounded from Tuesday’s 81 for a final-round 73. He tied for fourth place overall at 277, marking his second top-10 performance at the conference tournament.
LC State’s Chris Lein shot a 3-under 69 Wednesday and won the individual crown with a total of 215. Teammate Brandon Barnes placed second at three shots back. Austin Egan of Carroll College took third at 225.
Rocky Mountain College placed third at 935, followed by the University of Great Falls at 939 and Carrol College at 950.
Tech freshman Ryan Keenan shot 77 Wednesday and placed sixth at 229. He was on place and one shot ahead of Butte High graduate David Starcevich, who shot a final-round 74.
Tech’s Jimmy Amundson placed 17th at 239, while Butte High grad Trey Hoagland took 20th at 245.
LC State also took the women’s title with a 983 after Wednesday’s 321. Rocky placed second at 1,015, followed by Carroll at 1,055, Great Falls at 1,064 and Tech at 1,076.
Gina Kowolchuk of Great Falls went wire to wire for the individual title. She shot a final-round 71 for a 221 total. Allison Kadinger of LC State and Eryn Ellis of Rocky tied for second at 239.
Tech freshman Lynzee Dexter placed 11th at 265, one place and one shot and one place in front of teammate Taryn Campbell.
Megan Steach of Tech tied for 15th at 271, while Butte High grad Hailey Ogolin shot an 87 Wednesday for a 274 and 18th place.
