With the 2017-2018 Basketball Season fast approaching, the Butte MOA Basketball Officials are seeking anyone who may have an interest in becoming an official.
The Butte Pool has approximately 48 to 50 officials, but the Pool is in need of more officials to cover games throughout the season. The Butte Pool covers thirteen high schools including all sub-varsity games, junior high, middle schools and home schools in the area. So the need for additional officials is there.
The Butte Officials will have their first meeting of the year at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20 at the Maroon Activity Center.
Anyone interested in becoming an official and gain membership into the MOA would have to pay membership dues and score 60 percent on a qualifying exam (open book). Upon paying dues each official is provided with rules manuals and study materials prior to the test. Dues must be paid before testing is completed. The Butte MOA Study Club meets each Monday during the season and provides valuable information to all especially newcomers.
The 2017-2018 Basketball Rules Clinic for Officials is now on line and must be viewed no later than Dec. 1. If you are unable to access the internet, please contact your pool leader, Regional Director Bob Rowling at 490-5822 or the MOA/MHSA office at 442-6010.
Reminder to all officials that the Concussion Course is required each year after June 1 for all officials. By Montana law, an official cannot work any scrimmage or contest until the concussion clinic has been viewed. The deadline for viewing the course will coincide with the deadline for reviewing the rules clinic for each sport that is Dec. 1.
