MSU-Northern women sign California post player

HAVRE — Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball coach Chris Mouat announced today the signing of Hazel Hill to join the Skylight program in the fall.

Hill is a 6-foot-1 post player from Gavilan College in California.

This past season, Hill helped lead Gavilan College to its first-ever appearance in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state tournament.  The Rams had an overall record of 18-7 and 7-5 in conference play.  Hill averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds per game.

“Hazel brings added depth to the post position,” said Mouat, a former Butte High girls’ head coach and Montana Tech women’s assistant. “She is strong and is a good presence on the boards.  What is most exciting for us is the fact that Hazel still has a ton of room for growth and improvement.  I think she will make an impact for us in many areas.”

Hill attended Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill, California.  Sobrato High School is a member of the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.  There, she earned Junior of the Year and Senior of the Year, and league Most Valuable Player honors.  She was also named the Most Valuable Player in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Senior Showcase.

Hazel is the daughter of Greg and Renea Hill, and they reside in San Jose, California.  She plans on majoring in health promotion at MSU-Northern.
