CORVALLIS — The Butte Central Maroons trounced the Blue Devils 63-32 on the road in Corvallis as six seniors were honored on Senior Night prior to the game.

The last game of the regular season was played with the intensity of a tournament playoff game as the Maroons fought to clinch the second-place spot in the Southwestern A conference awarding them a first-round bye next weekend in Hamilton.  Butte Central will play at 8 p.m. next Friday in Hamilton.

Luke Heaphy opened the game with a trey which kicked off his astounding performance as he led all scorers with 25 following his team-leading 16 points against Anaconda on Thursday night in the Snake Pit. The first quarter saw both teams trading buckets as five Maroons contributed points in the first eight minutes as they ended the first with a slight edge 12-8 with Caeson Jessop hitting a three at the buzzer for Corvallis.

The Blue Devils were trying to hang on during the second quarter as it seemed they might have a resurgence as they hit three consecutive treys. However, that was not enough to put a damper on Heaphy as he was on fire hitting thirteen of his seventeen first-half points in the second. The Maroons went to the locker room with a 30-19 lead.

The Blue Devils refer to their gym as the Inferno, however, it was the Maroons who were throwing flames as they went on a 19-0 run to start the second half, fueled by Aaron Richards scoring 10 of his 12 points.  It wasn’t until 14 seconds left in the third that Corvallis picked up its only points as Caleb Warnken hit a three from the baseline.  The Maroons outscored the Blue Devils 21-3 to create a huge 51-22 gap.

The last quarter started with Ryal Jessop hitting a goal to give the fans hope that a come-back was possible.  But their hopes were crushed as Butte Central’s Jared Simkins scored all of his four points in the fourth netting two field goals along with a bucket and a free throw from Cade Holter, two free throws from Dylan Sestrich and two charity tosses from Patrick Dolan and a free throw from Heaphy.

Butte Central had points from eight players.  Leading the way was Heaphy with his 25, Richards chipped in a dozen, Holter scored nine, six from Sestrich, four from Jared Simkins, and three by Matt Simkins who fouled out of the game with just over 3:30 to play in the game.  Two points each from Braden Harrington and Dolan.  The Blue Devils were led by Ryal Jessop scoring nine points and Kobe Jessop tossed in six.
