RENO, Nev. — Former Montana Tech football player Ryan Jones was shot to death in Nevada.

The Associated Press reported this morning that policed identified the 26-year-old Jones as the victim of shooting in a Reno apartment on Sunday evening. Officers found two other people shot in the apartment. They both were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe an altercation happened before the shooting.

Tim Broadway, Reno Police Department spokesman, says the investigation is ongoing and several people still need to be interviewed.

Jones graduated from Hug High School in Nevada before attending Sierra College. He joined the Orediggers in 2011. Jones played for Montana Tech in 2011 before sitting out the 2012 season with an injury.

The linebacker and defensive end who wore No. 8 concluded his career in Butte in 2013.

Jones signed a free-agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens in 2014 and then had a stint with the New York Giants before becoming a mixed martial arts fighter.
