Blake Burton is an alternate no more.
The recent Butte Central graduate was added to the West roster of for the July 15 Montana East-West Shrine Game. Jeff Hartwick, the West team coordinator, announced the addition of Burton and Zakary Karlin of Columbia Falls this morning.
Both players were originally listed as alternates when the Shrine rosters were released on Christmas Day.
Burton will likely play running back for the West side. The 6-foot, 180-pound Burton ran for 901 yards and seven touchdowns on 95 carries for the Maroons in 2016. He also caught 16 passes for 252 yards.
He will join former BC teammates Nate McGree and Sam Johnston along with former Butte High standouts Kiley Caprara and Bryce Gallagher as Butte players on the West roster. Former Bulldog Brian LaFond is still on the alternate list.
Hartwick said the West roster stands at 40 with one more player to add. Trevor Paro of Hot Springs and Jaxen Hashley and Kellen Bemis of Kalispell Glacier are on longer on the roster.
The Shrine Game will be played in Billings this year.
