LEWISTON, Idaho — Lewis-Clark State head women’s basketball coach Brian Orr has announced the signing of Kiara Burlage, a two-time Class-A All-State performer out of Columbia Falls, Montana.
Burlage will join the team as a true freshman for the 2017-18 season. Listed as a 6-0 forward, Burlage helped lead the Wildcats of Columbia Falls High School to a 23-1 record and the 2017 Class-A State Championship, the school’s first title since 1983. The newest Warrior had 19 points in the championship game and for the season, she led a balanced scoring team with 14.9 points per game to go with 7.8 rebounds per game.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be adding Kiara to our women’s basketball program,” Orr said. “She is a perfect fit for our system. Kiara is long, athletic and has a skill set to be a triple threat out of the trail or running the floor to help lead the break. She can score a lot of different ways, including with her back to the basket or stretching the defense from the perimeter. She can put it on the floor and we also like the fact that she gets to the foul line which usually means she will be a tough matchup for opponents.”
Burlage has been a consistent finisher throughout her career and this season shot 58.9 percent from inside the arc. She also made nearly 77 percent of her attempts from the free throw line (94-125).
“We think she’s going to be an impact player on defense as well,” continued Orr. “Kiara’s very versatile and we see her athleticism, length, and basketball IQ fitting in well with our defensive system.” Burlage led her team in blocked shots (33) and was second with 45 steals. “She’s the kind of person we want in our program… an outstanding student who will be a great teammate.” Burlage joins, Delaney Henery (Salem, OR), Peyton Souvenir (Cathlamet, WA) and Abbie Johnson (Cashmere, WA) in this year’s recruiting class.
