Butte runners represent at state cross country

BOZEMAN — Heavy snow couldn’t stop a handful of Butte runners from competing at the USATF Montana Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Aubree Corcoran, Hailey Tonneson, Trey Whitlock and Grant Smith represented the Butte Track Club at the meet, even though about 8 inches of snow fell overnight to blanket the course.

Corcoran won the female 15-16 age group, running the 5-kilometer race in 23 minutes, 20 seconds.

Tonneson placed fourth in the female 13-14 group. She finished the 4K race in 18:30.

Whitlock ran to eighth place in the 4K male 13-14 age group with a time of 18:30, while Smith placed 16th in that age group in 21:40.

The top 15 individuals and top two teams in each age group qualify for the National Junior Olympic Championships, which will be held on Dec. 9 in Tallahassee, Florida.
