Butte runners post solid times at Boston Marathon

BOSTON — Butte runners Ozzie Rosenleaf and Rebecca Smith competed the 121st running of the Boston Marathon Monday.

Rosenleaf, 43, was running the race for the fourth time. He finished the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 17 minutes, 49 seconds. That mark was 5 minutes of Rosenleaf’s best time, which came in 2009. (Searchable results)

Smith, 38, ran Boston for the first time. She finished in 4:25:52.

Helena’s Jesse Zentz, the winner of the 2016 Veterans Day Race in Butte, posted the fastest time of the 39 Montana runners registered. He finished in 2:50:56. Fellow Helena runner Matthew Roberts broke 3 hours with a time of 2:59:32.

Geoffrey Kirui won the men’s title. The 24-year old Kiri broke the rope in 2:09:37.

Fellow Kenyan Edna Kiplagat won the women’s crown in 2:22:52.
