Share the Trail Workshop June 22
Butte, Mont., June 19, 2017 — A Share the Trail workshop sponsored by the Butte Ranger District, Mile High Back Country Horsemen, and Highland Cycling Club will be held Thursday June 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maud S Canyon trailhead in Butte. The workshop will demonstrate how to meet and greet various types of trail users safely and with the least impact based on the “Stay on the Right Trail” program. Horses and mountain bikes will be available and on site for people to practice techniques that will help ensure trail encounters are friendly and safe.
The numbers of people using local trails including the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail and Thompson Park has been increasing over the years. This workshop will show trail users a variety of techniques about how to be aware of potential encounters with other types of trail users especially when it comes to encounters on blind corners and steep hillsides.
Use along the continental divide trail provides for mountain bikes as long as it does not significantly impact the purpose for which the trail was constructed; which was for hikers and horseback riders. To ensure opportunities continue for all trail users it is important that everyone understand how to share the trails in a responsible way.
