Butte Central goes 1-1 on Belgrade diamond

BELGRADE — Butte Central’s softball team won one and lost one Saturday in Belgrade.

The Maroons, who played for the first time in three weeks, fell 15-2 to defending Class A State champion Belgrade before rebounding to beat Browning 19-0.

Both games were called after five innings by the 10-run rule. The Panthers also beat Dillon 16-1.

The Maroons (2-2) will head back to Belgrade to take on the Panthers on Thursday. Central will play at Corvallis and Stevensville next Saturday before finally playing a home game Monday, April 23 against Hamilton.

Catcher Katie Hoppe hit a home run and a double while driving in four runs to lead the Panthers, who broke the game open with a nine-run fourth inning. That followed a six-run third.

Heather Gier and Haylee Curry also homered in the win. Gier joined Hoppe with four RBIs.

Erin Elgas struck out eight batters and walked one in the win. She scattered eight hits.

Kloie Thatcher smacked a home run and double to lead the Maroons. Madison Kump hit a single.

Butte Central pounded 11 hits, and the Maroons took advantage of nine walks as they rolled past Browning.

Kassidy Criscuolo and Cassidy Strizic each hit a double in the win. Thatcher, Zoe Doherty, McKenzie Norton and Madison Kump added doubles in the win. Thatcher and Zoe Doherty each drove in three runs, while Criscuolo, Strizic and Norton drove in two.

Thatcher and Criscuolo, BC’s No. 1 and 2 hitters in the lineup, each scored three times. Emma Keely, Zoe Doherty, Norton and Kump each scored twice.

Makala Doherty picked up the win to go to 2-0 on the season.
