BOZEMAN — Butte High senior Isaiah Weldon shot a 3-over-par 73 Tuesday at the Valley View Golf Course to win the Gallatin Valley Invitational.
Weldon beat junior teammate Carsten Quam by one shot for medalist honors as the Bulldogs placed second in the five-team tournament at 314.
Bozeman won the tournament at 307. Helena High and Helena Capital tied for third at 322, while Belgrade placed fifth at 387.
Butte High also got an 82 from Will Hoagland, an 85 from Riley Walsh and an 88 from Kaven Noctor.
Weldon’s victory comes after he placed second at the Anaconda/Butte Tournament last week. He fired a 33 on the back nine for a final-round 73 at the Butte Country Club to lead the Bulldogs to the team title in that event.
Quam’s 74 was his high school career-best score.
On the girls’ side, Bozeman took five of the top six places on their way to the team title with a 313. Helena High took second at 385, followed by Capital at 406 and Butte High at 426.
Bozeman’s Annika Danenhauer shot a 73 for medalist honors. Teammate Kameryn Basye placed second at 75, while Capital’s Kielar Jones and Bozeman’s Cora Rosanova tied for third at 82.
Senior Sadie Starcevich placed 10th at 101 to lead the Bulldog girls. Butte High also got a 104 from Grace Luoma, a 110 from Kelliann Neary, a 111 from Ella Prigge and a 115 from Kennedy Lean.
Butte High will head back to Bozeman for the two-day Bozeman Invitational Sept. 21-22. That will be the final tune up before the Class AA State tournament, which is Sept. 26-27 in Kalispell.
