BILLINGS — Butte High’s softball team rebounded in a big way.
Still smarting from Friday’s Eastern AA loss to Billings Senior, Butte High swept Billings West in a conference doubleheader on Saturday.
The Bulldogs won the opener 4-1 in eight innings before plowing their way to a 12-0 victory over the Golden Bears in Game 2. The second game was called by the 10-run rule in the fifth. Butte High was the home team in the second game.
Both games counted in conference standings as Butte High improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in conference.
“That was huge coming off yesterday,” Butte High coach Ryan Stosich said. “Yesterday was a little disappointing. We expected to come in and win. We didn’t, and they moved on. They rebounded that second game yesterday.”
Butte High dropped the conference game to Senior on Friday before winning the non-conference tilt in dramatic fashion.
Stosich pointed to the hot bats of Brittney Tierney, Jenna Maroney and Taylor Huff to lead the Bulldog attack. Tierney hit a home run in both games Saturday. Huff went yard in the second game.
“Huffer had a blast that I didn’t have to look at,” Stosich said. “I just said, ‘Good job.’”
Kaidy McClafferty pitched the distance in both games, giving up just five hits in 15 innings. She struck out 13 batters while improving her record to 5-1 on the season.
“Kaidy pitched two great games,” Stosich said.
Butte High is back on the road Tuesday when the Bulldogs head to Great Falls Russell. They are seeking their first win over CMR since Butte High’s Class AA state championship run in 2011.
“They’re getting tired of hearing about 2011, but that was the last time we beat CMR,” Stosich said.

Raiha’s big hit came after MacKenzie Tutty drove in the go-ahead run by reaching on an RBI.
The game was tied at the end of regulation after the teams traded solo home runs in the fifth inning.
Tierney put the Bulldogs up 1-0 with a blast before Deven Creech answered in the bottom of the inning.
McClafferty went 3 for 4 with three singles. Brianna Ossello and Maroney each smacked a pair of singles. Kennedi Ferriter, Trisha Ericson and Emma Cox each added a base hit.
