GREAT FALLS — A handful of Butte High track athletes punched tickets to the Class AA State meet Friday at the Eastern AA Divisional meet at Memorial Stadium. (Results)
On the boys’ side, senior Bryce Gallagher won the long jump to highlight the day for the Bulldogs. He posted a mark of 21 feet, 1 ½ inches for the victory. Gallagher, who won his heat and placed third in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles, placed fifth in the 300 hurdles.
The future Montana Western football player has a busy day on Saturday as well.
Junior Ty Peterson cleared 14 feet to place second in the high jump. That is his personal best, which trailed only Tyler Gurchiek of Billings West. Gurchiek cleared 15-4.
Jake Vetter and Cole Walker of Butte High secured a spot in the state meet with fifth-place finishes.
Vetter ran to fifth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 1.33 seconds. Walker’s 162-10 throw in the javelin was fifth best on the day.
Butte High’s 400-meter boys’ relay team also took sixth place. Quinn Sullivan, Gallagher, Tommy Mellott and Marcus Garcia ran a leg.
Billings West leads the team standings with 79 points. Butte High sits in sixth at 25.
Senior Abby Dodge placed second in the long jump, while Hailee Regan took second in the shot put to highlight the day for the Bulldog girls.
Dodge leapt 16 feet, 5 inches, while Regan launched the shot put 36-4. Bulldog teammate Josey Earles placed third in the shot at 35-4.
Regan and Earles both surpassed the state qualifying mark, though that didn’t come into play Friday. The top six places in divisionals advance to the Class AA State meet, which is next week in Butte.
Joby Rosenleaf ran to third place in the 3,200 meters, while Mar Sorini took sixth in the 200.
The Bulldog girls also placed sixth in the 400-meter relay race. Gabby Parini, Ally Cleverly, Sydney Pendergast and Sorini each ran a leg for the Bulldogs.
Bozeman’s 105 points tops the team standings. Butte High is fourth at 29.
