Bulldog softball team puts season on the line

It’s must-win time for the Butte High softball team.

The Bulldogs play host to Billings Skyview in an Eastern AA playoff series today at Stodden Park. The first game of the best-of-three series begins at noon. The second game is set for 2 p.m., and the third game, if necessary, at 4.

The winner heads to the Class AA State tournament next week in Great Falls. The winner is done for the season.

Butte High finished the regular season with a 10-11 overall record. Butte High placed third in the Eastern AA with a 6-6 mark.

Skyview (9-12 overall), took sixth in the seven-team conference at 4-8.

The Falcons took three out of four games from the Bulldogs in the regular season. Abby Bryan held the Bulldogs to just one hit as Skyview won the conference opener 8-0 in an April 14 twin bill in Billings.

The Falcons won the nonconference second game 14-4 that day.

Butte High took the game that counted in a doubleheader two weeks later in the Mining City.

Katelyn Alley belted a three-run home run, while Kennedi Ferriter and Jenna Maroney doubled as the Bulldogs took the opener 8-4. Kaidy McClafferty struck out four Falcons while scattering nine hits in the win.

Skyview battled back to take the nightcap 14-4. Only the first game counted in conference standings.
